What is Wysa?
Wysa's AI uses a combination of rule based algorithms and large language modelling to listen and respond intelligently to the thoughts and emotions that you express. As well as listening and responding through conversation, Wysa also recommends skills and techniques that may be helpful for the particular difficulty that you are experiencing. These skills are evidence-based and aim to help you improve your mental resilience and well-being.
What is the intended use statement for the Wysa app?
The Wysa app is a stand alone software application available on android, IOS or over the web for the self-help and self-monitoring of mental wellbeing by individuals.
The app is an AI-driven conversational agent intended to assist individuals with subclinical or clinical symptoms of anxiety or low mood in managing emotional distress through evidence based techniques such as CBT, goal setting and emotional acceptance. The software provides feedback and personalised insights based on user-input data and helps users set meaningful personal goals and take actionable steps towards positive change. It is intended for use by individuals over the age of 13 (or 11+ if agreed by the provider) as a stand alone support tool or in conjunction with regular physical or mental health focussed clinical care (during waiting periods, between appointments, and/or as an adjunct to individual or group therapy). It is not a substitute for professional medical advice, and does not provide medical advice or diagnoses. It is not recommended for use in crisis situations, nor is it suitable for use by those with severe and enduring mental health problems.
Is Wysa a human or a robot?
All the conversational responses provided by Wysa are AI generated. Our premium service also offers human AV or text based coaching support in some locations, at an additional cost.
Who is Wysa designed to help? Are there situations where Wysa wouldn’t be recommended?
Wysa is designed to help people over the age of 13 (or 11 if agreed by the provider) who are experiencing low mood, stress or anxiety, or who are interested in improving their wellbeing and emotional resilience. Wysa is not recommended for crisis situations, nor is it suitable for use by those with severe and enduring mental health problems.
Can I use Wysa if I have a physical health problem or medical condition?
If you have a physical health problem or a diagnosed medical condition, please consult a qualified healthcare professional before making any major changes in levels of physical activity. If you are unsure about whether or not to engage with the physical activity based exercises within Wysa because of the impact that doing so may have on your condition, please consult a health professional for their advice before proceeding.
How can Wysa help me?
Wysa can help you by listening, whenever and wherever you are, and by helping you to identify and practice proven skills and behavioural change techniques that can lead to improvements in how you feel.
Is it free to use Wysa?
Talking to Wysa AI is free, including tools offered within conversations. For sustainability, we also offer a premium version at cost, which includes a much wider selection of tools that are also accessible directly through a tool library as well as through conversation.
Is there an age limit?
We have users from all age groups. However, if you are less than 18 years of age, please read through the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy along with your parent or legal guardian to understand eligibility before use. Wysa is not to be used by children under 13 years (11+ if agreed by your Institution or care providers).
What is the science behind the suggested techniques?
The skills and techniques offered by Wysa are evidenced for effective use in the management of common mental health problems such as low mood and anxiety. Tools included within the applications include those based on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Solution Focussed Therapy, and Mindfulness. Some skills are practised through audio recordings, others through conversations with Wysa, and all content is clinically approved and tested prior to release.
What is an institution version of Wysa?
Wysa has partnerships with several institutions (eg employers, schools, universities, insurance companies, etc). If this applies to you, you will be made aware of it during your first conversation with Wysa. If you have access to Wysa through an organisation, you will automatically have access to the premium version at no cost. The partnership may also include access to human coaching. Whether or not you access Wysa through one of our partners or not, our commitment to your privacy stays the same. As an Institutional user, some population-level trend data may be shared with the organization.
Is Wysa designed along app design standards and accessibility guidelines?
We align to WCAG requirements (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines), including:
- Providing contrast between foreground and background
- Providing clear and consistent navigation options so that the different parts of our app/web page are easy to locate and identify
- Using headings and spacing to group related content, reducing clutter and making it easier to scan and understand
- Creating designs for different viewport sizes, making it easier to read and navigate content on different screen sizes.
We also follow Apple iOS and Google Android provided design guidelines and best practices.

Wysa’s ethos is that everybody should have access to quality wellbeing support in a way that suits them, and we work closely with users from all over the world to ensure Wysa incorporates and reflects the views and needs of a variety of people. From clinical professionals to everyday members of the public we take your feedback very seriously and use it to help our product grow. We use in-app and app store feedback to guide changes and improvements to our products, and we set up specialist co-design groups to help us support our research projects.

Privacy and data sharing
Is my data private?
Yes. Wysa does not request Your Personal Data and all conversations with Wysa's therapeutic AI and/or human coaches are private and not shared with anyone. Please do not share any personal data that directly or indirectly identifies you at any time during your use of any of our services, however if you inadvertently submit any Personally Identifiable Information (including but not limited to email identifier, location address, mobile numbers) via text messages, then we will irreversibly redact it from our system within 24 hours.
If you use Wysa within our partner ecosystem, then anonymized and summarized information may be exchanged however the details of your specific conversations are never shared with any external parties outside Wysa, including any partners.
Do I have to use real names?
No, you don’t have to use your real name - you can use a dummy name or a nickname.
Who can read and use my messages?
Only Wysa. The Wysa team occasionally uses some anonymized messages to train Wysa's AI to help improve its ability to have conversations.
How will my conversations and responses to assessments be used?
Your conversations and assessment responses are anonymous and never processed to form a diagnostic opinion nor for any medical purposes or for giving clinical advice. Please read our Privacy Policy to understand more about how your data is handled.
What security measures are taken to keep my data safe?
Wysa uses industry-standard safeguards to prevent unauthorized access to your data. We encrypt all data provided by you using strong TLS encryption protocols and transmitted securely from your mobile device to our servers. Your data is also encrypted within our storage servers using strong industry compliant AES-256 encryption protocols. Our servers are hosted and managed by industry leaders in the provision of cloud hosting services who have stringent GDPR and HIPAA compliant security programs and controls. We maintain service level and Data Protection agreements with our hosting partners.
If using Wysa on the phone, you can set a PIN from the settings inside the Wysa app to ensure only you see your chats with Wysa.
Can I access my past conversations with Wysa?
Yes, your conversations with Wysa can be accessed at any time from the "Journey" tab in your app.
I've switched to a new phone, how do i move my data from the old to the new phone?
If you are a premium user we can help you migrate without any cost. Please write to us at [email protected] to know more.
How do I delete my data?
You can at any point of time, delete all your provided data by using the “reset my data” feature available in the Wysa App settings. Please be aware that post reset, all your data will be deleted from our servers and cannot be recovered.

Human Wellbeing Coach FAQ
What is the Wysa Emotional Well-being Professional service?
The Wysa Emotional Wellbeing Professional Service is a text-based online messaging service with a highly trained and qualified mental health and wellbeing professional (hereafter referred to a Wysa coach). For select India and US based users, this service is also available over third party audio-video platform.
Wysa Wellbeing Professional services are not intended to be a replacement for face-to-face psychotherapy or to provide a diagnosis, prognosis, treatment or cure for a disease/condition/disorder or disability or provide any type of state-regulated mental health services in your country of residence. It is an enabling and empowering mode of support, rather than treatment of illness or a health condition.
If you are on an institution version of Wysa (eg you access Wysa through your employer, school, university, insurance, etc) the professional supporting you may be employed by the Institution.
What do Wysa Coaches do?
The Wysa coaches are wellbeing professionals who apply motivational interviewing and life coaching to help you work towards your personal wellbeing and emotional resilience goals. The coaches provide empathetic and non-judgmental support, and will also help you to learn and practice the skills you need to make successful lifestyle changes.
How old do I have to be to talk to a Wysa Coach?
You need to be 18 years or older to talk to a Wysa Coach.
What qualifications do Wysa coaches have?
Wysa Coaches have a Masters degrees in psychology or social work and/or a certification in coaching, and typically have practiced for many years in their own practice or as consulting psychologists in educational institutions, multinational firms, clinics and hospitals.
I am going through a crisis or emergency situation. Will a Wysa coach be able to help me?
The Wysa Emotional Wellbeing Professional service is not a crisis or emergency assistance service. If you experiencing a mental health crisis or you have a severe and enduring mental health problem, this service is not appropriate for you - instead please call the relevant emergency or crisis number in your country.
Once I signup, will I always have the same coach?
Yes. You will be assigned a coach the first time you book a session. In case your coach is not available due to unforeseeable reasons, you have the option to either speak with a different coach, or to reschedule your session.
What does a session with my coach entail?
A session is 30 minutes of live in-app text-based messaging with your assigned coach. The first one or two sessions are focused on building up a shared understanding your concerns and arriving at collaborative goals. Further sessions will focus on your progress towards these goals, discussing any potential hurdles in reaching your goals, and/or discussions on between session activities or homework exercises. You and your coach can also work on problem solving any here and now concerns, or you can use the space just to talk. Your coach can also recommend digital tools (e.g. CBT based exercises, Mindfulness or Relaxation audios) that may be helpful for managing the difficulties that you're experiencing.

Will the Wysa coach respond to me in real time?
Your coach will be available for you in real time for the duration of your scheduled appointment.
Can my coach access my chats with Wysa's AI?
You have the right to share details of your Wysa chat activity by going to the “Unauthorize / Authorize Emotional Wellbeing Professional ” feature in the More > Settings section of the app. You can also opt-in or opt-out of sharing your Wysa AI messages with your coach by typing #sharechat within the Wysa chat.
Can I change my assigned coach?
If you don't feel that you connect with your coach or if there’s an issue with session timings you can request to change coaches by writing to [email protected]
How do I book a session with a Wysa coach?
When you subscribe to the Wysa Emotional Wellbeing Professional service, you will be able to book your first session using the Emotional Wellbeing Professional session scheduler. Here, you can see available session timeslots for your chosen day. You can choose your preferred date and time and make a booking. All subsequent sessions can be booked by clicking the three dots on your Emotional Wellbeing Professional interface and selecting “sessions”.

How many sessions can I book at one time?
You are currently allowed to have only one active scheduled session, and only one session per week. If you try to book another session, the initial booked session will automatically be cancelled and rescheduled to a new time.
How many sessions are included in a subsciption?
The number of text-based sessions that you can book during the subscription period is entirely up to you. You can book a session with your assigned Emotional Wellbeing Professional once every week, subject to their availability.
If you are on an institution (employer, school, university, insurance, etc) version of Wysa, your Institution may have agreed a pre-determined number of coach sessions per user. Please refer to the installation and access instructions shared by your Institution.

Can unused sessions be carried forward to my next renewal?
No. Unused sessions cannot be transferred and will lapse when your subscription ends.
Can I cancel or reschedule a booked session?
You can cancel or reschedule a booked session up to 3 hours before the start of the session. No cancellation or rescheduling is allowed within 3 hours or after a session begins.
Will I get a reminder for my booked session?
Yes. You will receive a reminder notification of your booked session from Wysa on your mobile device. You will receive this notification 30 minutes prior to start of session. Please enable receiving notifications from Wysa to receive your scheduled reminders.
What happens if there is a crisis or a personal emergency and I miss a booked session?
If you failed to attend a booked session due to any reason, that particular session will automatically lapse, however you can make a fresh booking by choosing the next available date & time in the same week or subjected to your coach's availabiity. In case you do face any issues with rescheduling your session on your own you could reach out to us at [email protected] for more support.
If you are on an institution (employer, school, university, insurance, etc) version of Wysa, your Institution may have a pre-determined number of sessions available for each user. Please reach out to [email protected] if you have missed a booked session and would like to reschedule a fresh session.
Is there anything I need to do between the sessions?
Between coach sessions you would be practicing any strategies agreed with your coach, such as completing a thought diary or engaging in a mindfulness exercise. You can also journal your thoughts, feelings, success or hurdles between booked sessions. Your coach will read and respond to your logs within 24 hours on their working days.
What is Journalling?
Journalling could include:
1. Using the Emotional Wellbeing Professional interface platform to vent your feelings or thoughts or to share anything you would like your coach to be aware of to help you acheive your goals.
2. Logging your thoughts/feelings/mood changes as a part of the homework or weekly tasks agreed between you and your coach.
Your coach will provide feedback on what you share, with suggestions on how to enhance any positive streaks and/or how to manage any negative events, as well as offer you questions to help you to reflect on and manage your emotions.
Can I access all the premium tools that are available in the app when I sign up to an Emotional Well-being Professional subscription?
Yes, you get access to all the premium tools during the subscription period.
My local time shown in the session scheduler is incorrect. How do I fix this?
You will need to type #time in the Wysa app to make changes to your local time before proceeding to book a session.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Unfortunately, we can't cancel your subscription for you. These are managed through Google Play and iTunes. Please see the appropriate section for canceling your subscription below:

If you are using an Android phone, please follow the steps below:
1. Ensure you are logged into the account that has the subscription.
2. Go to the Google PlayStore .
3. Check if you’re signed in to the correct Google Account.
4. Go to the 'Payments and Subscriptions' tab from the Menu and click 'Subscriptions'.
5. Select the subscription that you want to cancel.
6. Tap Cancel subscription and follow the instructions that come up.

I am on an Institution plan, why can't I see the Wysa Emotional Wellbeing Professional?
If you are on an Institution (employer, school, university, insurance, etc) version of Wysa, the Wysa Emotional Wellbeing Professional service maybe not be available. If this is the case, should you want a human coach, you would have to relinquish the benefits of your institution version by resetting your data (found within the settings menu of the Wysa app). You can then start Wysa again and subscribe to the service.
Why was I not assigned a coach matching all my preferences?
While we try our best to match all your requirements, sometimes we may not have a coach matching all asks. It's usually dependent on staffing, specialisation and the time zones of those available.
If I accidentally/intentionally reset my data, do I lose my subscription?
If you reset your data, you do not lose your subscription. Upon restarting the app, your subscription will be automatically activated and you may proceed to book your remaining sessions. Howevere reetting your data will delete all prior data provided by you - this cannot be restored.
Audio-Video Therapist Service FAQ
Is Wysa Audio-Video Professional service available in my country?
Wysa audio-video professional service is currently only available in to select users in India and US.
What is an Audio-Video Professional session?
A session is a 30-45 mins scheduled video call over a third party audio-video platform with your assigned professional. All communication with the professional is through Audio-Video Zoom calls and within the Coach tab. Your sessions will require you to install and create an account with the Zoom Application. All sessions are HIPAA Compliant with end-to-end encryption and adequate safeguards to protect your privacy and security.
What are the various categories/plans listed?
There are three plans - Weekly (1 session), Monthly (4 sessions) & Quarterly (12 sessions). You can only choose one plan at a time. Once the plan expires, you may switch onto the other one.
How do I book an audio-video session?
When you subscribe to the Professional service, you book your first session under the coach tab via the “Reserve a Slot” option. For all subsequent sessions, you can schedule either through ‘Book a session’ button on the Home tab or Coach tab or via the ‘Schedule Card’ sent by the professional.
Is there a limit on the number of audio-video sessions in my subscription?
You can book 1 session in the weekly subscription, up to 4 sessions per month in the monthly subscription, and up to 12 sessions in the quarterly subscription.
What are the timings for Audio-Video Professional service?
The Wysa Audio-Video Professional service hours are from 6 pm to 10 pm Eastern Standard Time for US users and 7am to 11pm for Indian users.
Will I get a reminder for my booked Audio-Video session?
Yes. You will receive a reminder notification of your booked session from Wysa on your mobile device. The first notification arrived 10 mins prior to the start of the session followed by a second reminder 5 minutes prior to session. The second reminder also opens the “Enter your session” option on the app.
Can the sessions be only audio-based?
Yes, you may choose to switch off your video if you wish to have an audio only session. However, all sessions will happen via the Zoom application only.
Is the Emotional Wellbeing Professional service available in multiple languages?
Currently, our coaches can converse with you in English, Spanish, Hindi, Punjabi, Bengali, Marathi & Urdu.
Will my audio-video sessions be recorded and can I record my sessions?
To ensure your complete privacy and confidentiality we don't record the sessions or recommend that they are recorded by you.
Can I get a recording or transcript of my audio-video session?
We are unable to provide recordings or transcripts, however your coach will update the session summaries after every session. These are accessible to you via the Coach tab within the app.
What happens if there is a technical issue during a session?
The emotional wellbeing professional informs you of a back-up plan should there be any technical issues, such as losing an internet connection/power. You can alternatively have a text-based session or reschedule for a later time.
Whatsapp FAQ
How can I delete my data on WhatsApp?
Clearing the chat will only delete your conversations from WhatsApp and as per WhatsApp retention policies. To delete your data from the Wysa server, please send a request to [email protected]. Once deleted, the data cannot be restored.
What data does Wysa collect from me?
We collect and process your conversation messages to provide the service. Wysa also stores your phone number and WhatsApp name to identify you on WhatsApp and provide a seamless conversation. Your phone number is never shared with any 3rd party. Please read Wysa's Privacy policy to know more.
Is my data secure on WhatsApp?
Yes. Your conversations on WhatsApp are end-to-end encrypted. All transmissions and storage at Wysa is also encrypted. Your data is stored securely and privately as per Wysa's privacy policy.
Can I talk to Wysa after deleting all my data?
Yes, you can start a conversation with Wysa even after deleting your data. However, you will be treated as a new user and Wysa will not remember any of your previous conversations.
What services can Wysa offer on WhatsApp?
Currently, Wysa on WhatsApp is limited to improving sleep efficiency.

What is Wysa+? How does Wysa+ differ from the original Wysa?
Wysa+ is the next generation of Wysa's therapeutic AI, powered by Large Language Models (LLMs). Wysa+ improves the conversation experience by offering more personalized interactions. It understands and responds to users' needs more effectively, thus making the overall experience better.
Why does Wysa+ use an external LLM, and which LLM?
Wysa+ uses an external LLM to better understand the nuances and context of your conversations. This helps Wysa+ process a broader range of information and emotions, allowing it to generate more personalized responses.
Wysa+ uses external LLMs powered by OpenAI.
Are Wysa+ conversations GenAI clinically safe and tested?
Yes, Wysa+ conversations are carefully created and tested, and include safety guardrails.
Will my conversations still be private and confidential? Will my data be used for training or other purposes?
Yes, your privacy is our top priority and we take it extremely seriously. Wysa+ will continue to adhere to strict privacy and security protocols. We have put in place a number of safety and security guardrails to protect your data when shared with external LLMs. Your conversations shared with external LLMs will be anonymized, and none of your device or app identifiers will be shared.
Wysa holds a DPA (Data Processing Agreement) with the external LLM, ensuring no Wysa-user conversation is used by the external LLM for any internal or external purpose.
